HT: Scouring the web it's hard to figure out where you guys are from!
PL: We're from Massachusetts, same area as Shadows Fall, KsE, Ligeia and The Acacia Strain.

HT: You toured pretty much non-stop with bands like Gwar, Slipknot and others before taking a break to write your album last year. Had you been writing songs on the road or were you starting from scratch?
PL: Oli (our guitar player) was writing riffs but we had very little put together. Touring in a van isn't the best way of trying to practice and try new ideas out as a band.

HT: What are some of ATR's influences outside of music? Anything you guys do for fun that we should know about?
PL: Oli and I both play some online video games. Over all we are quite a boring group of people. Ha ha! Most of the time we just try to spend as much time with friends while we're home cause we're on the road so much.

HT: Was the songwriting on The Fall of Ideals collaborative? How long did it take to write and record the whole album?
PL: It was quite collaborative. Oli wrote most of the meat of the riffs and stuff, but we all contributed to the arrangements. Oli and I really did the bulk of the stuff but this record is by no means a one or two man show. We did the whole thing--writing and recording--in about three months.

HT: The song and the video for "This Calling" are pretty heavy and dark but also seem to have a positive bent to it. What's the story behind that song?
PL: It's kinda whatever get's you through. Everyone has something that helps them get up in the morning. This song is kinda' like sayin' I have "this" and "this" is what keeps me on the straight and narrow.

HT: This album has been described as different than your previous albums but still holding onto your aggressive sound, what exactly did you change up this time around?
PL: There is far more double bass on this disc, more singing, more guttural vocals. Just more of everything we do.

HT: ATR fans seem to be a pretty loyal bunch. It seems most of your supporters have gotten on board through word of mouth about the band. Is this true or have you promoted too?
PL: We do promote but it's really about the touring and people telling their friends.

HT: You've had more than a few Ozzfest shows under your belt now. How's that tour going?
PL: It's awesome! The shows have been great, and the signings and stuff have been great. It's amazing. I usually go on stage to watch some of the other bands before we play and almost every day people point and yell, "ATR WHOOOO," and it's awesome. It makes ya' feel really good.

HT: What's one thing your fans would probably never guess about you?
PL: From hearing people, it's that I'm short. Ha ha! Not super Danzig short, but my voice leads people to believe I'm a giant... and I'm not!

HT: In five words or less, describe The Fall of Ideals.
PL: Good, quality metal for all!

HT: Thanks Phil and congrats on The Fall of Ideas having the highest debut week of any Prosthetic Records artist!
PL: Thank you!!!
