HT: You say that dancing on tour for your husband Rob Zombie's show got you into clothing design. Were you making your own costumes for the tour?
SMZ: I actually got the idea for TOTAL SKULL while taking a vacation with my husband and our good friends. We were talking about art, movies, music and the name TOTAL SKULL came to me!!! Ive always made clothes, added onto and altered things I bought. I finally found some time in my schedule to devote to starting up TOTAL SKULL. I have so many ideas for cool designs that I want to wear and hopefully other people will want to wear them too!
HT: What inspires TOTAL SKULL and specifically, the latest collection of pieces?
SMZ: My inspiration for TOTAL SKULL comes from my everyday life, which can include anything from traveling on the road with my husband and checking out what all the kids are rockin' out in, to seeing all my cool friends in Los Angeles who always know how to dress in a cool, rockin' way that isn't contrived... just simply total rock!
HT: Does Mr. Zombie put his two cents in about TOTAL SKULL too?
SMZ: Ha ha! Of course! I ask Rob's opinion on all of my designs. He has a great eye for art and design so I love to pick his brain, and it's great to have a male point of view that I trust.
HT: If you could pick any celebrity or famous person to makeover in TOTAL SKULL clothes, who would it be and why?
SMZ: I'm not into makeovers--you are who you are and I don't want any fakey-fakey TOTAL SKULL heads out there, my fans are for real!
HT: When it comes to fashion for yourself, what designers inspire you?
SMZ: I love fashion! I really like Vivienne Westwood stuff. I like that she can design affordable, cute boots for Nine West, but it's still totally her, and I like what Gwen Stefani is doing with L.A.M.B.
HT: What music, um, aside from Rob Zombie, do you like to rock out to?
SMZ: I like a lot of music: old Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Queens of the Stone Age, The Darkness (first CD), David Bowie, Ramones, Danzig... God, I could go on, but I think you get the point!
HT: You've done a lot of cool stuff, ranging from dancing and acting, to now doing the voice for the upcoming Zombie animated flick El Superbeasto. How do you find the time for design?!
SMZ: Yeah, my schedule is pretty hectic. When I started TOTAL SKULL, I was in a lull for work so I had so much time for design. Now I'm on the road, in hotel rooms, sketching stuff on hotel stationery, and then doing work on Photoshop. I take a lot of photographs while traveling, which also helps me with design ideas.
HT: What do you think of the state of fashion right now? Is there any trend you'd like to see die?
SMZ: Fashion right now seems very influenced by the 80s with all the Victorian tops and leggings, which is kinda cool. I am wearing some leggings now!!! Thankfully, T-shirts never go out of fashion, they are always a staple in my wardrobe!
HT: What are some fashion tips you can pass along to young rockers who want to look as cool as possible?
SMZ: I really think it's all about individual style. I like to see people that feel comfortable and look cool. There is nothing worse than walking around thinking you look great (which you might), but feeling awkward or stiff in what you have on. My faves are a great fitting pair of jeans (I love Hudson grey jeans), any of my TOTAL SKULL tees, a cool pair of boots, a belt and scarf or necklace.
HT: So, what other rockin' things can we expect to see from Mrs. Sheri Moon Zombie in the future?
SMZ: Well, more designs for TOTAL SKULL, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto comes out in may 2007, and I believe I'll be working on a film project in the Halloween genre soon (wink, wink)!
