Name: Ryan
AKA: Ry or Grrrl
Who is your hero and why: My mom ‘cause she is the strongest person I know, and through it all, she never gave up. She accepts me for who I am. I am so thankful that she’s not only my mother, but she’s my best friend.
Nobody knows that I...am a huge nerd and play World of Warcraft! I’m currently at level 63 Fire Mage!
What about you stands out in a crowd: My laugh, which I've been told sounds like a mix between Scooby Doo and Krusty the Clown. Use your imagination.
Possession that brings you luck: I may or may not wear a certain pair of boxer briefs when I’m feeling that I need a little luck.
Things you collect (i.e. stamps, Star Wars memorabilia): The little fortunes that are in fortune cookies. My favorite one says, “Stop searching. Happiness will come to you.” I believe this to be true.
What do you want to be remembered for? My passion
What would you want your last meal to be? Velveeta Shells N’ Cheese mixed with cinnamon applesauce
What superhero power would you like to have? Telepathy and telekinesis ‘cause if I could know what people were thinking and would be able to move the store around in minutes, I would be so happy!
What gives you the chills? Biting my tongue barbell while eating…Eek!
Your first crush: Jason, the Red Power Ranger
Anything else you feel like sharing? The state fish of Hawaii is the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. After you learn to say it, it’s a great conversation piece with customers!
HOT TOPIC
What’s the best part of your job? Being happy and having fun while at work is absolutely the best! I never thought I would look forward to coming to work!
What’s the first thing you remember buying at HT: Captive hoops
Your most prized Hot Topic possession: The people I’ve had the opportunity to work with!
Best customer experience: I was working one morning when an elderly woman walked up to the entrance of the store and just peered in. After a few moments, I walked to the entrance and greeted her. She asked me what the “scary store” was all about. I told her how Hot Topic was a store based on pop culture, and from there, we started talking about some of her favorite music. She mentioned that she liked Johnny Cash, and I let her know we had some Johnny Cash merchandise. She then walked into the store, and I showed her the items that we had. She left the store with a smile on her face. Now, she visits the store often.
Most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you while on the sales floor: Once upon a time in Hot Topic land, I was assisting a young lady with body jewelry. She had a baby with her who was, at that moment, sleeping. We were talking about the body jewelry she liked, and then all of a sudden, the baby woke up and puked all over her. I tried so hard not to laugh, but I couldn't help it. It was embarrassing because I felt bad. She laughed as well, so everything was all right. After I got her some paper towels and she got cleaned up, we continued with her body jewelry. She now comes in frequently to get new body jewelry, and we can laugh about the day her baby threw up all over her.
What made you apply at Hot Topic? I had worked for another clothing retailer in the mall. I didn't like the culture that the other company had, and honestly, it was boring. Hot Topic just seemed so fun and energized! So I put my application in at Hot Topic, and now two years later, I'm still here!
Best advice for a potential Hot Topic applicant: If you try to be perfect, you're gonna screw up. Just take everything as it comes, and do your best, seriously.

FASHION
Oldest item of clothing in your closet: I had a pair of shoes that I got in 6th grade. As of New Year’s, I still wore them. Some things you just can't get rid of until they literally fall apart.
Item of clothing you can’t live without: My watch ‘cause before I got my new one, I had been wearing one that didn't work for a few years. It wasn't about telling time; it was about knowing that I had something on my wrist.
Worst fashion trend: Short denim skirts with fuzzy boots in the middle of January - What is up with that? We need to draw the line.
Celebrity you feel is in need of a Hot Topic makeover: Jennifer Aniston
Item of clothing you would never admit to wearing but you did: Sweat suits - Yeah, the monochromatic matching top and bottom kind of sweat suits. I was ten; I swear.
The one accessory no one should be without: A watch on one wrist and a black jelly bracelet on the other
MUSIC
Best band to ever walk the face of the earth: I can't pick just one! There is too much talent out there.
Most overrated band: Underoath
Best “kept secret” band: La Bouche - Fueled through the 90s with their own brand of pop, dance, and a twist of R&B. If you haven't heard ‘em, please do!
Three CDs you cant live without: Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin, Angels & Airwaves - I-Empire and Combichrist - What The F**k Is Wrong With You People?
Rock star that resembles you the most: I'm my own rock star just ask my cat!
Most disappointing CD you own: The Spice World soundtrack - It was great at the time.
Type of music you “just don’t get”: Screamo
Favorite genre of music: Industrial
Best concert you have ever attended: Blaqk Audio - It was at a small venue in Detroit, and there were so many people. We were all dancing and singing along. It was like a club with Davey and Jade DJing. Simply amazing!
