WATCH: The Get Up Kids' three-song Shock Session.

WATCH: Our interview with Jim and Matt from the Get Up Kids.
When the Get Up Kids — one of the more influential bands from the "second wave" of the emo-punk movement — called it a day in March 2005 and splintered into various other projects (including Reggie and the Full Effect, Blackpool Lights and the New Amsterdams), the odds of a reunion looked pretty slim for the Kansas City quintet.
And yet, six years later, they're back together and touring in support of There Are Rules, a new album which balances the band's older-and-wiser outlook with a reinvigorated desire to experiment, and a move back to the stripped-down analog recording techniques of their youth.
The Get Up Kids recently stopped by the ShockHound studios to play three songs from the new record — as well as to fill us in on the reasons behind their 2005 split, and how things have changed within the band since they reunited. Click the "play" buttons above to watch their Shock Session, and the interview with frontmen Jim Suptic and Matt Pryor.
